The beach restoration project began earlier this week and is already complete between Juarez and Constituyentes. The project will now move south to Playacar to restore the beaches along Phase I. It’s great to see Playa del Carmen surging ahead and become better and better!
They dredged up barge loads of sand, and brought barges of sand from Cozumel. They then built an expandable pipe line running down the beach pumping the sand out until they had done the entire area.
Now most of the beach front properties are rebuilding and upgrading their beach frontage with new Palapa sitting areas and extra palm trees.
Of course they had to close the beach while the work was being done. Things are like that here, you just have to learn to accept if you can get the equipment and the man power, get the job done regardless of the timing. Most vacationers enjoyed seeing such a great improvement in process and they simply walked to the north end of the beach for the day. They packed up the pipes and smoothed out the sand yesterday and moved to the next phase.
What a beach it is! It’s time to come see playa again we look forward to seeing you here.

Thanks for the update. We look forward to seeing the completed project next week. Playa is one of our favorite places to be.

How is the condition of the beach in front of the Sandos Playacar Beach resort? Is that part of the Phase I Playacar area being worked on next? Or is that beach area not damaged?

Is the beach in front of the Riu Playacar under construction now? If so when is the work expected to be completed in that area?

It is good to see information on the Playa beach rebuild. Should be nicer than looking at the "whales"!
Unfortunately the erosion that occurs had very little to do with any certain Hurricane. I have seen a beach of 40 feet become ) feet from one windy week!
I understand there is something in the construction method that may serve to hold sand in place somewhat.
Maybe 20 years ago the Cancun Hyatt had lost its beach and the old Continental chain hotel next door was using the next door beach!
