 New English Speaking Rotary Club Starting in Playa del Carmen

For over 100 years Rotary International has been bringing together business professionals to provide humanitarian and community service work around the world. With over 34,000 clubs, and 1.2 million members throughout the world Rotary International Club is the largest service organization in the world. The Rotary Club in Playa del Carmen has been actively supporting Rotary International for nearly 20 years, and has done countless fundraisers and community outreach programs since its inception.
These chapter meetings are held solely in Spanish so recently a group of English speaking professionals have decided to start an English speaking club in Playa del Carmen. With the support of the existing club Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside is brand new; having held their first meeting in April 2012. Currently they are working on getting recognized by Rotary International, and there are various steps that must be completed in order to become an individual and operational club.
Required steps:
- Permission from the Rotary District Governor to begin formation of a new club.
- Finding a nearby club to "sponsor" the new club.
- Giving the club a name.
- Establishing a regular time and place to meet.
- Electing a slate of officers: president, vice president (usually the president elect, who will take office July 1, 2013), secretary, treasurer, plus 6 directors. This is the group that will make most club decisions through June 30, 2013 - the end of the "Rotary Year"
- The officers and directors must adopt the club's constitution and by-laws.
Currently, Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside has accomplished the first four steps. Numbers five and six are approximately six weeks away. Once they are done, Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside will become a "provisional club", which will be the first official recognition by Rotary International. You may be asking yourself "What does this have to do with me?" Well, this is where you come in as the next challenge is to continue to grow until there are 25 + charter members (currently there are 16 charter members). So please come and join the weekly meeting to see what it is all about!
When: Every Tuesday from 12:30-1:30 PM
Where: Wah Wah Beach Bar located on 2nd Street and the Beach.
Details: Lunch is $120.00 MN and that includes a choice of two entrees, and endless iced tea; well worth it!! You will not only get a delicious lunch, but a warm Rotary welcome as well!
Once 25 charter members join, paperwork will be submitted to Rotary International. Approximately one month later approval to the charter will be granted and Rotary Playa del Carmen will then schedule a social event, at which time the District Governor will present the charter to Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside and voila a new Rotary Club is born; Party Time!

2.Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside will be hosting their very first fundraising event in Playa del Carmen at the annual Andale! Summer Bazar. They will be hosting a table selling homemade goodies, second hand household items, books, and clothes et. They will be handing out informational flyers s well to people curious about the new club.
When: May 20th, 2012 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Where: The Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside table will be located SOMEWHERE on 34th Street between 10th and 30th Avenues.
