We only drink bottled water here in Playa del Carmen, and at home everyone has the 5 gallon jugs of water on a dispenser. We do however, bathe in the local water, brush our teeth with it, and do our dishes with it as well. All of the restaurants located in the downtown area of Playa del Carmen also use purified water for their cooking, cleaning of vegetables and fruits, and for their ice for drinks and cocktails. So don't worry when you order a margarita from your beach lounger; the ice is safe!!!
