Fernando Sandoval, the golf clubs manager, states that it is a great satisfaction to play the 18 holes of this 7,144 yard, par 72 golf course. It is a difficult course because its greens are small, there are many water and sand traps and it is surrounded by dense jungle. Another characteristic of the course are the hills and knolls. "To play here is like tossing a coin in the air because the ball can either stay in play or end up in the jungle.", remarks Sandoval. Playacar Spa and Golf Club was the first to use the all-inclusive system, which gives the golfer a better overall experience, as all their needs are met for the greens fee. The Jack Nicklaus designed Moon Spa and Golf Club ranks as the best golf course currently in the Riviera Maya. During the design of this 27 hole course, Nicklaus had to modify the project several times to respect the environment. Another objective in the design of the course was to create a concept that would satisfy the demands of a resort but maintain the characteristics of a professional course, so amateurs and professionals alike can enjoy it. The Moon Spa and Golf Club is used as Mexico's official 'norm' when constructing other courses based on the quality of the course.
Last year, 57,000 rounds of golf were played here. Because of this, they began to add more holes to be able to host tournaments as as the daily round of golf played by visitors. Moon Spa and Golf hosted the Mexican Golf Open in 2003 and receives frequent proposals for other tournaments such as the Ladies Professional Golf Association, Champions and European Tours.
